I went to see a movie today. My intro was going to be a short review of the movie King Richard . But about 30 minutes into a perfectly pleasant viewing experience a group of unsupervised kids somewhere in the range of 11-15 decided to take up residence directly behind me in the theater. They were not interested in watching the movie. In additional to fairly constant chit-chat, exited and entered the theater no fewer than 10 times as the film was running and several times there was a persistent sound of rustling plastic bags as if they were trying to find something in the dark. There was also many flashes of cell phone lights that I saw (and they were sitting behind me). I did turn around and voice my frustration with the youths and at one point got a manager who gave them a warning that they'd be kicked out if he had to come back. This only moderately improved their behavior throughout the second half of the film. In the end, I did not opt to go for the manager a second time. I cou...

Another quick update: I am on page 410 of Dune. An accelerated reader , I am not. Gettin' close to the end though. There are so many more books I want to read after I'm done though. I washed my car last weekend and vacuumed and cut grass this past weekend. In no way do I chip away at my list of cleaning chores any faster than new items get added. Is there some way to make housework not feel  Sisyphean? Listening to podcasts only helps a little bit. I had an electromyography test (EMG - I had to google what it stood for because no one bothered to explain it to me) the other day to try and see why my wrist has been hurting. I don't like medical tests/procedures and ten minutes into a test that I was in no way informed about going in I had to lie die down and finish that way to keep myself from passing out from a vasovagal reaction. Strangely, I feel like sometimes doctors get a little angry at me when this happens, but the doctor performing the test didn't seem too put o...

Before we get to the CBS SUNDAY MORNING POWER RANKINGS, we're going to do this. I give you the oft delayed, yet not forgotten: The Ballad of Weaves #53: Part 3: The Conclusion (?) For those who have been following, this all started the week of Grammy's. Part 1 focused on the quaint charm of the small music venue . Part 2 was a reflection on growing old and losing touch . This week's conclusion (?) focuses on music and nostalgia. Despite not being the indie music aficionado I once was, I still try drop by the local record shop a few times a year and drop some money on some CDs. Vinyl is too cumbersome and I just don't own the equipment for it. I like having a digital copy and CDs are easily rippable into a variety of formats. Because I am crazy, I keep my digital library in triplicate FLAC (lossless!), Ogg Vorbis (open!), and MP3 (compatible!). I like being able too look at the album artwork and whatever else comes in the packaging, whether it is the traditional jewel ca...

This week was Easter Sunday and days surrounding a weekend were a bit of a mini spring break for the power rankings committee, so apologies ahead of time for this being somewhat of a tardy, yet perfunctory entry. Sadly, I don't have much to offer in the way of blathering or pontification this week, so if that's what you tune for, sorry to disappoint. If my meandering musings are not your cup of tea: Sorry, The Ballad of Weaves #53: Part 3 is bumped yet again. It has officially turned into the running Matt Damon gag of this blog . Next weekend, I promise I'll have time to finish the story (if anyone cares...) The CBS SUNDAY MORNING POWER RANKINGS! 1) Tracy Smith Did we jump the gun by putting Tracy at #2 last week ? Call it weakness if you want, but you try and resist when someone favorably compares your writing to F. Scott Fitzgerald, even jokingly. We'll give anyone a one week bump for flattery. But you've got to earn the top spot and there is no question that Tra...

Something happened to me last week that I thought would make for a good intro to today's CBS Sunday Morning Power Rankings as a short personal story. But then I actually sat down to write up the power rankings, which can take time and it no longer felt like a fit. Each week, I attack the rankings a little differently. Sometimes, I need an intro to gather my thoughts. This week, I started with the rankings proper and decided to circle back to the intro. Five hours later, I had finished, but not edited the rankings sans intro. I needed to go to bed. This evening, I circled back to the intro and find there is not enough time to execute my original idea. And with the benefit of hindsight, I'm just not as excited about the idea as I was originally. C'est la vie. If I am smart. I will write it up at my leisure and save it for another time. Wait, five hours? Do I spend too much time on the power rankings? It takes me anywhere from 3-5 hours to crank out something that maybe tak...
