Tbe CBS SUNDAY MORNING POWER RANKINGS 1) Tracy Smith In a first, the top spot goes to someone who did not appear in the episode. Alas, apparently the Tracy Smith/Joe Burrow interview we were (I was) clamoring for never materialized while the Bengals cruising around the City of Angels, bringing a Cincinnati flavor to SoCal. (Mmm... it tastes like ice cream and a Greek Bolognese .) I went through two or three different Super Bowl bits that I was going to write up that centered around Sunday Morning 's Southwest Ohio native and resident Bengals fan . (Although, did anyone really want the Rams to win?) One idea was to write a fictional transcript of Tracy interviewing Joe Burrow and fill it in with screengrabs of the two of them. Another idea was to have every all power ranking entries 1-10 be Tracy only to have the "committee" inform me that Tracy did not actually appear in the episode before revealing the true rankings. But this is more work than I have time for and I do t...

Not that anyone is actively following the CBS Sunday Morning Power Rankings , but I know I'm behind. Look, it's officially summertime. This past Sunday was probably the nicest day of the summer, low 80's, sunshine. I spent most of my time outside. I rode a bike. I grilled out. I even cooled off in the pool while I could enjoy the outdoors without it being oppressively hot and muggy. Also, I had a home improvement project I needed to knock out. Not that I did that on my own. Shout out to my pops (I never previously referred to him as such.) for helping me out with said HI project. Anyway, I've been saying these things since May, right? I don't get paid to do this, so I could just stop and move on with my life, but my goal is to stick with it for at least a year. Hopefully, I'll continue on, but I also hope to have other another writing project off the ground by then and I don't know if I'll have time for both. There. I wrote it down on the internet, which...

I know I keep teasing Australian animals, but with Mother's Day and housework crowding my weekend, doing a deep dive into marsupials and monotremes . I do have a couple of random things to cover. I put on the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense album when I went for a run this week and I realized that Wayne Coyne and David Byrne share many commonalities. They both care very deeply that the live shows are a truly unique experience and bring a a lot of theatricality and distinct visual aesthetics to their performances. They both tend to write simple, yet not simplistic songs. Byrne has stuck mostly to his original Talking Heads new wave template, while Coyne has been all over the place, from fuzzed out psychdelia to orchestral to twee to anything and everything. You could make an argument that Wayne Coyne was the Gen X David Byrne, but the truth is that the Talking Heads do not predate the Flaming lips by all that much. You could make an argument that they are closer to being contempor...

I've let you down, nameless, faceless internet reader. Tell me, who is going to read a CBS Sunday Morning recap blog on Monday or Tuesday? I know my Sunday evening posts are already pushing a deadline. My dedicated (imagined) army of readers demand punctuality. CBS Sunday Morning represents the essence of Sunday and so the definitive recap should come on a Sunday. The day to rest, relax, recuperate, and rejuvenate for the week ahead. The Jews (and Seventh Day Adventists, I think) say that Saturday - the end of the week - is the day for rest. Apparently, mainstream Christianity messed it all up by transferring the Sabbath to the Sunday thus making the first day of the week the day of rest. I say, why not both? Two thoughts on the religiosity of weekend rest: A) The Resurrection asserts that Jesus rose on the Third Day, but I can count and Sunday is two days after Friday. Also, they found the tomb empty on Sunday morning. Considering that Jesus would have died early afternoon on Frid...
