Unexpectedly, improbably the Cincinnati Bengals are going to Super Bowl LVI. I was five years old the last time that happened. I was seven the last time any Cincinnati sports team played for a championship of any kind. I need some time to process this. This happened. I have two weeks to unpack this. Until then, I'll tie it into Sunday Morning by bringing up that Tracy Smith is from the Cincinnati 'burbs and currently based in LA. The Super Bowl is in LA. I don't know when she would moved away or if she's a Bengals fan, but Bengals fans/ Sunday Morning recap bloggers are clamoring for Tracy Smith-Joe Burrow interview to hype the game. I know that media rights pretty much prohibit because NBC is carrying the game this year, but crazier things have happened this year - see the above picture. Heroes & Villains Please forgive an obsessive tennis fan a few words about the Australian Open. Halfway through the Świątek/Kanepi quaterfinal, I texted the following to a friend...

I feel bad about not having time for last week's episode, but last week was hectically busy. Perhaps that's a bit of an overstatement, but I could have used that extra hour of sleep right around Halloween. And I'm not really even a Halloween person. Last week's episode was good, so I'll make time for it soon. Usually I spill way ( way ) too many words by way of introduction. Since nobody reads this blog (except for David Pogue, occasionally) I don't worry too much about alienating readers with inane blather they don't care about. You come here just wanting an episode recap? Usually I'm going to make you go through a couple thousand words about tennis or music or biking or whatever. I sometimes share little tidbits about myself - enough that you could probably track down who I am in real life if you wanted to. Eeven though I am a private person, I'm not too worried about that though. That would take time and effort that I assume most people do not hav...

There is a saying that fans of The Tony Kornheiser Show (AKA littles) will recognize that goes, "But what about your Thursday show?" The quote is attributable to Satchmo himself - a nickname Dr. Porthouser gave himself, despite Louis Armstrong already laying claim to said nickname, breaking all nickname rules known to God and Man. The nickname I'm most likely to answer to is Pillard. The origin of this nickname is so random, it in no way comprises my online anonymity except to those that knew me once upon a time. I doubt they will read this blog. Anyway, the HOF/WOF's saying is a rebuttal to those who think could do his job and host a radio show. The meaning is that while a Sunday football game may give you fodder to fill a Monday and maybe a some of a Tuesday show, the natural ebbs flows of a weekly news cycle (at least in the pre-Trump era) generally slows to a trickle as the week goes on. To fill a show, you have to be good at vamping and finding material beyond t...
