Another quick update: I am on page 410 of Dune. An accelerated reader , I am not. Gettin' close to the end though. There are so many more books I want to read after I'm done though. I washed my car last weekend and vacuumed and cut grass this past weekend. In no way do I chip away at my list of cleaning chores any faster than new items get added. Is there some way to make housework not feel  Sisyphean? Listening to podcasts only helps a little bit. I had an electromyography test (EMG - I had to google what it stood for because no one bothered to explain it to me) the other day to try and see why my wrist has been hurting. I don't like medical tests/procedures and ten minutes into a test that I was in no way informed about going in I had to lie die down and finish that way to keep myself from passing out from a vasovagal reaction. Strangely, I feel like sometimes doctors get a little angry at me when this happens, but the doctor performing the test didn't seem too put o

Naomi Osaka Part 2: Don't You Know the Future's Coming?* * This is a very inside joke for a friend. Maybe I'll give it more context someday. I said I was going to write more about Naomi Osaka about a month ago so here it is. I'm didn't feel 100% up to writing something originally - Sunday Morning being dark this week is an excellent excuse to slack off - but sometimes, you just gotta do it to do it. One cannot always wait for the spirit to move oneself. Also, I did sort of skip the September 12 episode, and being a completionist, I am morally obligate to swing back and check that one off my list. First a quick check in tennis in general: The last meaningful tournament of the year finished (Indian Wells) this past weekend. I did not watch it. But I somehow managed to write a recap, which I then excised from the post due to editorial restraint. If you really want to read it... The only thing I actually wanted to say about Indian Wells is that I have this weird habit

Excised Indian Wells recap

The last big tournament of the year, Indian Wells displaced from its usual slot in March, finished this past weekend and true to post US Open form, it ended with some truly random results. You could argue that Paula Badosa had been building up to a big title all year. And you could argue that Victoria Azarenka, the runner up, is at least a big name. You could also argue that it was no less random than what transpired at the US Open and that women's tennis is ridiculously deep... fine.  US Open champ Emma Raducanu lost in her first match. Leylah Fernandez up her finals appearance a little better with a run to the fourth round. I'm not certain how much staying power either of these young ladies has going forward. I hope they do, but you know, plan on them being up and down for a little bit. Coco Gauff is still trying to find a consistent high level a couple of years after her big breakthrough. Sure, she's a year younger, but amazingly feels more like the tested v

Another update on things: I am on page 270 of Dune . I still wish I could read faster. I got through marginally more cleaning. I truly enjoy Fall. Somewhere near Atlanta around Halloween 2014 I enjoy the trees and explosions of color. I am no arborist, but, disappointingly, I believe most of the trees in my back yard are oak. They don't so much change color as they fade to brown and drop inconveniently late in the season. I have to wait until mid December before I can stop dealing with leaves. I love the cooling temperatures. Ain't no weather like sweater weather. Jackets are also superior articles of clothing. When I was 18, I bought a green jacket made of alpaca at a local thrift store for $4. Considering I still wear that jacket 20 years later, it's probably the greatest investment of my lifetime. Someday, I'll delve deeper into in the genesis of the purchase and the history of the green jacket, which is essentially the history of me at point considering the "e

An update on some things: My house is partially clean. I am hoping to get to the rest of the most pressing stuff by the end of the week. At which point I'm sure it will need to be cleaned again. The struggle never ends. I haven't even brought up the once or twice a year tasks I still hope to get to. I am on page 200 of Dune and wish I was a faster reader. My frail aging body may force me to finally keep posts short. Typing is start to cause severe discomfort to my right wrist/hand/arm/shoulder. I don't think this carpal tunnel, but I think this needs to be addressed by a doctor at this point. I went to see a movie in a movie theater - Free Guy. Quick review: It's a fun movie. I would go so far as to say it is a good movie, but you may have to be into video game culture to enjoy it. The main cast of Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, that guy from Stranger Things (not that guy, the other guy, no no, the other other guy - the one with the hair) are good. Taika Waititi is enjo
